No. I’m not watching ‘Miracle’. If you don’t understand the reference, you need to watch the movie. Again.
Yesterday, I got home from work and took Lillie for our nightly walk around the yard. Originally, the plan was to leave work early and mow the leaves. For the first time! However, it rained. I seriously think God wants me to leave the leaves where they are this year.
Anyway, when we rounded the barn, I saw that Naturalscape had come and piled up the back burn pile. JUST when we were making progress in eliminating the ash! Alas, we just have to burn it again. The good news is that they removed the broken top of the bald cypress so I don’t have to see it every day and be sad. It was too much for me to move by myself and K and I forgot last weekend.
Anyway, I digress.
After we rounded the tree, I decided that the weather didn’t need to be a total waste (it was 52 degrees), and decided to pick up limbs and deliver them to the burn pile. After about 4 trips, I picked up the last stack and a small limbs whipped around and hit me in the eye. It was painful. The left eye. The one that got the ear mite drops and the umbrella poke. I decided we were done picking up sticks. Normally, I pick up sticks while I mow and therefore am wearing my protective glasses. New rule – no stick picking up without protective glasses.
I did all the right stuff, but it was very painful. K tried to rinse it out before I went to bed; however, I had to get up 3 more times in attempt to rinse the eye.
I basically had a patch over my eye from 5:30 pm yesterday to 6pm tonight. There is no need to think Pirates were cool. Wearing a patch on one eye is very annoying. I did call the doctor; however, he was not in and didn’t return my call. My vision was affected, so I was concerned that I had torn my Lasik flap – something the doc is always concerned about.
However, then I hit on the idea of debris in my eye and that made sense. After the second eye flooding this morning, we may have tackled it. Its still sore and my vision isn’t back; however, its MUCH better than yesterday.
So. I have a fever blister from my cold, I’m wearing a patch over one eye, but other than that, life is great.
I made beef stroganoff tonight and K took over the chopping since she made me a Moscow Mule and evidently didn’t feel I should add sharp knives to my mix tonight. I put the rest of the Layer Cake wine in the stroganoff, so I’m half in the bag, as they say.
I really don’t need anything for Christmas, but if you feel you must – I wouldn’t mind one of the new Better Homes cookbook. I have the original and read lately that they issued an updated one.
Anyway…hope all is well.
Love,
Mom
Notes: This felt like the way to come back. I’m sorry it’s been so long dear readers. We’ll be scheduling out some weekly posts now… please enjoy my MIL’s antics. She brings a smile to my face with every email and I hope the same can be said for you!
And yes, instead of a cookbook for Christmas, I’ll ABSOLUTELY be getting one or two pairs of safety goggles for her.
I love hearing about Karen’s antics! I keep telling her she needs to write a book….I believe she may have it about half-way done with all of her emails.
I am going to wish for an accident-free holiday for her as she could use a break!
Susie
